Livelihood and Economic Empowerment for Internally Displaced Women Households – April 2017- March 2026

WYEAHI, with support from Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), implemented a project titled “Livelihood and Economic Empowerment for Internally Displaced Women Households” in Girei Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State from April 2017 to March 2024. During this period, the initiative empowered one thousand, five hundred and forty-four (1,544) women and girls by conducting Healing and Rebuilding of Our Communities (HROC), basic trauma healing training, income-generating activities, and saving and loan association methodology. The project also provides them with a seed grant of thirty thousand naira (₦30,000) each. Indirectly, 10,007 family members benefited from this project.

In response to the high levels of poverty and vulnerability experienced by women and girl farmers due to farmers-herders conflicts and flooding in Demsa LGA, WYEAHI has expanded its intervention from Girei LGA to include Demsa LGA, Adamawa State. So far, the project has empowered four hundred and fifty women and girls with a grant of seventy thousand naira (₦70,000) from April 2024 to March 2025. While in April 2025, another 100 beneficiaries were enrolled and empowered with a grant of forty-five thousand naira (₦45,000). With the approximation that each household is made up of at least four (4) people, indirectly, 2200 family members benefited from the project in Demsa LGA.

The project conducted Healing and Rebuilding of Our Communities (HROC) basic trauma healing training for the direct beneficiaries and other activities such as;

  • Petty Businesses, Diversification of Businesses,
  • Personal and Environmental Hygiene,
  • Communication,
  • Leadership
  • Record Keeping,
